This map explains why it’s not hard to tell which Chicago train line is which based by looking at the the people getting on and off.

Mostly black people getting on, white people getting off?  Southbound Red Line. Mostly white people getting on, black people getting off?  Northbound Red Line.
Black people getting on and off?  Green line.
Latin people and people with suitcases getting on and off? Orange line.
Latin people/hardcore hipsters getting on and off?  Pink line.
People with suitcases AND hipsters who have sold out AND Latin people getting on and off?  Blue line.
Dorks and white people getting on and off?  Purple line.

Once a cop woke me up when I’d fallen asleep on my regular commute to 95th/Dan Ryan. He did not wake me up to say “hey vagrant, stop sleeping on the train.” He woke me up to tell me that I’d missed my stop. I informed him I had not. He was very confused.
